HR&CE Minister Ramesh on Tuesday said an inquiry has been initiated into the alleged Srirangam temple land fraud, and asserted that those who encroached or grabbed temple property would not be let off.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchirappalli, the minister said the department has begun examining the matter and would proceed based on the findings of the investigation.
He also questioned why former DMK minister Sekar Babu sought anticipatory bail if the complaint was false. He said there was no immediate arrest and that the appropriate course was to appear before the court and cooperate with the inquiry.
Ramesh added that seeking anticipatory bail during an ongoing inquiry indicated fear, and claimed it suggested that there could be wrongdoing that needed to be addressed.
