Chennai Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) questioned Karthik (45), a relative of former DMK school education minister Mahesh, for more than seven hours on Monday in connection with an alleged ₹100-crore fraud.
The case stems from a complaint that Arasakumar (58), DMK’s media wing deputy chairman, collected over ₹100 crore by promising to secure recognition for private schools and facilitate other related works, but allegedly cheated those who paid. Based on the probe, the CCB arrested Arasakumar and two others.
Police said Arasakumar’s statement led investigators to conduct searches at Mahesh’s house and other locations, where key documents were seized. Mahesh was also questioned for more than nine hours and his statement was recorded.
Following this, a summons was issued to Karthik, who appeared at the CCB office at the Chennai Police Commissionerate. Officers questioned him using the seized documents and also examined alleged money transfers between Karthik and Arasakumar, police said, adding that Karthik gave inconsistent answers during the interrogation.
