Ayushman Bharat, the Centre’s flagship health insurance programme, completed eight years on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the scheme has helped more than 600 million people access health coverage.
Launched on September 23, 2018, the programme offers eligible families free medical insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh per year. Marking the anniversary, Modi posted on X highlighting the scheme’s reach and impact.
In his message, the Prime Minister said the goal was to ensure every Indian can access quality healthcare at an affordable cost. He added that the scheme has enabled savings on medical expenses, benefiting poor and middle-class families.
Modi also said efforts are being made to ensure essential health services are available closer to people’s homes. He noted that Ayushman Arogya Mandir centres have recorded over 500 crore visits, which he said reflects stronger primary healthcare at the grassroots level.
He extended greetings to beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
