Embassy issues fresh advisory
The Indian Embassy in Malaysia has warned Indian nationals not to use the 30-day visa-free entry facility to travel on a tourist purpose and then attempt to look for jobs in the country.
Rise in tourist-entry job seekers
In its statement, the Embassy said it has recently noticed many people arriving from India on tourist entry and getting drawn into job searches. It noted that some are being misled by fake recruitment agents and, in some cases, end up staying without proper documentation.
Legal consequences highlighted
The Embassy stressed that staying or working in Malaysia without valid permission is illegal. It said those found working unlawfully after entering as tourists could face arrest, imprisonment and fines, and may also be barred from entering Malaysia again.
Proper visa and travel documents required
Those intending to work in Malaysia must obtain the appropriate work visa and approvals before departing India, the Embassy said. It also reminded travellers that the visa-free facility is meant only for tourism and that visitors should carry required documents such as return flight tickets, hotel booking proof, a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card submitted online within three days before arrival, and a passport valid for at least six months.
