New Delhi: On the occasion of World Rhino Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a message on social media praising efforts to conserve the one-horned rhinoceros and highlighting India’s achievements in protecting the species.
In his post, the Prime Minister commended forest department personnel and others working on the frontlines, calling their dedication crucial to safeguarding rhinos. He noted that around 80% of the world’s one-horned rhino population lives in Assam.
He pointed to intensified anti-poaching measures in Kaziranga National Park as globally noteworthy, and said rhinos are also increasing again in parts of Bihar and West Bengal. Modi also said the rhino reintroduction programme at Uttar Pradesh’s Dudhwa National Park has achieved major success.
To take wildlife conservation to the next level, the Prime Minister said the government has launched “Project Rhino” to support habitat management, genetic improvement, protection measures, and financial and technological assistance for rhino conservation.
