Chennai: Annamalai, founder of the organisation We The Leaders, has demanded that the Tamil Nadu government constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the POCSO case involving Gem Granites’ Veeramani, to bring out all those linked to the alleged sexual abuse.
In a statement, he alleged that the Tamil Nadu Police, once widely praised, has in recent years become corrupt, inefficient and politically influenced. He cited the initial handling of the Veeramani case as an example, claiming that despite video evidence of a minor being abused, the police attempted to close the probe stating they could not identify the victim or the perpetrator.
He noted that the court refused to accept that report and ordered further investigation. After the probe resumed, police arrested Veeramani and others connected to him, and the girl seen in the video has now been identified. He also said the investigation has revealed that more victims may be involved, including people who were minors at the time, suggesting the abuse could have continued for years.
Annamalai said the inquiry should not stop with Veeramani and his associates. He called for action against anyone who allegedly helped protect him or tried to dilute the case, including police personnel and politicians, and referred to reports of large sums of money changing hands.
He further stressed that the identities of all survivors—especially those who were minors—must be fully safeguarded, and that their safety and dignity should not be compromised at any stage.
