New Delhi: Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has voiced full support for President Droupadi Murmu’s appeal that film celebrities should not advertise products that harm public health.
Speaking at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony held in Gujarat, the President said cinema artists wield strong influence among the country’s youth. She urged them not to lend their support to items that can damage health, and specifically asked them to avoid appearing in advertisements promoting products such as pan masala.
In a social media post endorsing the message, Mundhe said influence does not grant immunity from the law and that film stars, like everyone else, must respect legal norms. He added that celebrities also carry a responsibility to help people access healthier products and encourage good habits.
Mundhe stressed that when influence is used to promote food-related products, public health should never be treated as secondary. He noted that in Maharashtra, notices have already been issued to film stars who advertise food products, reiterating that no one is above the law and influence should not be used to promote anything that could harm public health.
