Reports claiming that a gold crown kept in the strong room of the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple had gone missing have been rejected by the Travancore Devaswom Board.
The rumour alleged that a 55.72-sovereign (445.76 grams) crown, donated to the temple, was removed and replaced with a lookalike imitation. The Board said these claims are false.
Kerala Minister Muraleedharan also confirmed that the Sabarimala golden crown is safe and remains in the temple’s secure custody.
According to the details cited in the reports, the crown was donated in August 2012 by devotees from Tamil Nadu and was recorded in the donation register. The Devaswom Board maintained that the crown has not been lost and is securely stored in the strong room.
