A nationwide mass singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ has been planned to commemorate the song’s 150th anniversary. The event is scheduled for 11 am on Thursday across India.
Organised by Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan under the banner ‘Namami Bharatam’, the programme will be held at more than 25,000 locations. Students, teachers, parents and members of the public—together expected to exceed 10 million participants—will sing the full version of the song simultaneously.
The organisers said the initiative is being conducted under the theme “One voice – One resolve – One India”. A key aim is to bring people together and help the younger generation understand the song’s historical journey and its role in India’s freedom movement.
In Delhi alone, the programme is set to take place at over 300 venues with more than one lakh participants. The organisers have submitted the event for record consideration by the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.
