Chennai: Three police officers have been moved to the “waiting list” following allegations of negligence in the handling of a POCSO case against granite trader ‘Jem’ Veeramani, 85.
The case was registered in October 2025, alleging that Veeramani targeted 12 minor girls. The investigation was later closed citing lack of evidence, and the closure report was sent to the POCSO court located in the Madras High Court campus by the investigating officer, Assistant Commissioner Yasmin.
Allegations have been raised that Arun, who was then the Chennai Police Commissioner, acted negligently in the matter. Similar accusations have been made against Kannan, who served as Additional Commissioner for Chennai South Zone in 2024, for allegedly remaining passive despite being aware of the allegations.
In connection with these complaints, Arun, Kannan and Yasmin—currently Assistant Commissioner at Chennai’s Koyambedu—were shifted to the waiting list on Wednesday.
Following the move, Arun’s additional charge as Director of the Police Academy has been handed to Rajiv Kumar, DGP (Police Training). Kannan’s role as Coimbatore Police Commissioner has been given as additional charge to Ramya Bharathi, IG of the West Zone.
