Public calls have intensified for stringent punishment in the POCSO case involving Jem Granites owner Veeramani, 85, who has been arrested over allegations of sexual abuse of minors. The case has triggered statewide attention and political sparring.
According to the report, the matter is being portrayed as one that was allegedly kept pending and concealed during the DMK’s tenure. Congress functionary Ranjan Kumar has claimed that he filed a complaint with supporting material in November 2024, but alleged that police did not act at the time.
The issue has also become a flashpoint between parties. Ministers of the ruling TVK are cited as alleging that the DMK attempted for a year to protect Veeramani in exchange for money. DMK leader M.K. Stalin, in a statement, said that Veeramani, his accomplices, and anyone who tried to shield them—regardless of position—should not escape.
Amid the political exchanges, the report notes that several film personalities who often comment on issues linked to BJP or AIADMK governments have not spoken publicly about this case so far. The silence has led to questions from sections of the public about why these voices have not responded to the controversy.
