Chengalpattu district witnessed a high-voltage bypoll campaign on Thursday as Chief Minister Vijay travelled by road to canvass votes for the Maduranthakam Assembly constituency. Supporters lined the route to استقبال him, and he later paid floral tributes at an MGR statue in Maduranthakam.
At the campaign meeting, the party’s candidate Maragatham Kumaravel presented Vijay with a silver spear (vel). Addressing the gathering, Vijay said he had come not “as a Chief Minister” but as a familiar face seeking votes for the by-election.
Vijay launched a sharp attack on the DMK, alleging that its leaders routinely make defamatory and obscene remarks. He said the people of Tamil Nadu were watching such conduct closely, and recalled that a video of DMK leader M K Stalin allegedly speaking ill of Jayalalithaa continues to circulate.
Turning to the AIADMK, Vijay claimed the party’s “mask has begun to tear” as it explores forming a government with those who, he alleged, had insulted Jayalalithaa. He urged voters to back his party’s “whistle” symbol, arguing that it would serve as a punishment for those who speak obscenely about women.
