Russian envoy on India’s rise
Russia’s Ambassador to India Denis Alipov said India’s emergence as a superpower and China’s expanding influence are “irreversible trends” that cannot be stopped. He made the remarks at a media conference organised by a private news channel in New Delhi.
BRICS and alternatives to dollar dependence
Alipov said India and other BRICS economies cannot rely only on the US dollar for growth. He noted that discussions within BRICS have focused not merely on introducing a new currency, but on developing alternative mechanisms for transactions, trade, cooperation and financial operations.
India–Russia transactions and sanctions
According to the envoy, about 96% of India–Russia transactions are now conducted using national currencies. He also said Russia has already faced more than 30,000 sanctions, adding that additional sanctions or their removal would not matter and would not change Russia’s objectives.
Trade focus and long-standing ties
Alipov said Russia is paying attention to increasing imports from India, including mangoes, textiles, industrial equipment and other goods. He described India–Russia ties as an enduring relationship spanning 80 years across multiple sectors, and said Russia would continue to remain a key defence partner for India.
