A surveyor working at the Salem Municipal Corporation’s zonal office in Ammapet was arrested on Thursday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to measure a farmer’s land.
According to officials, the surveyor, identified as Murugesan, was caught while receiving Rs 5,000 from the farmer for carrying out the land measurement work.
The trap was conducted by the Salem Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) team led by Inspector Ravikumar, who detained the official at the spot.
Police said Murugesan has been taken into custody and further inquiry is under way.
