BENGALURU: Senior Karnataka Congress leader Siddaramaiah is set to return to the chief minister’s chair—this time on the silver screen. He has agreed to play a chief minister in an upcoming Kannada film.
Karnataka is currently governed by the Congress under Chief Minister Shivakumar. Siddaramaiah, considered an influential leader in the party, previously served as chief minister from 2013 to 2018 and again from 2023 until June 3 this year, before stepping down and handing over the post to Shivakumar.
The film is being directed by debutant Rajesh and produced by RA Film Factory. Siddaramaiah is expected to portray a chief minister in the story, after he reportedly liked the script narrated by the director.
The movie is likely to be titled Mukhya Mantri. The makers are also planning an unusual schedule—completing filming, editing and other work within 48 hours in an attempt to set a world record.
Siddaramaiah is not new to acting, having performed in plays during his school and college days. He had earlier appeared as a chief minister in the 2017 children’s film Summer Holidays, directed by Kavitha Lankesh. Former minister H.M. Revanna will also act in the new film, while the team is trying to rope in Chief Minister Shivakumar and former minister Dinesh Gundu Rao for special appearances. Shooting is expected to begin in November.
