Chennai: DMK president M.K. Stalin has alleged that a section of people is spreading “false slander” against the party in connection with a case involving allegations of sexual abuse of minor girls. He appealed to the ruling side to stop turning the victim’s suffering into a tool for by-election politics.
In a statement, Stalin referred to the arrest of Jem Veeramani based on allegations of “inhuman and degrading” acts against minor girls. He said not only the accused, but also anyone who aided him or tried to protect him—regardless of their position—must be brought before the law and given the maximum punishment.
Stalin said the outcome of the case should serve as a deterrent so that no one even thinks of committing such crimes in the future. He added that this was his wish as a political leader, a family man and a person with a conscience.
Rejecting allegations aimed at DMK, he said no order was issued during the DMK government to protect anyone in the Veeramani case. He also claimed that in cases involving crimes against women and minor girls, arrests, charge sheets and convictions were secured without bias, and that the DMK government had no need to shield anyone.
He further alleged that unlike what he described as “compromise” attempts under the current administration even after sexual allegations against party functionaries, such practices did not occur under the DMK government. He demanded that the ruling party stop spreading “completely false” accusations and stop using the incident for political gain.
