DMK president M.K. Stalin on Thursday said the party’s government had not issued any instruction to protect anyone in the case involving the arrest of JEM Veeramani over allegations of sexual assault on minor girls.
In a statement, Stalin said Veeramani, those who allegedly aided him, and anyone who attempted to shield him—regardless of their position—should not escape. He said all accused must be brought before the law and ensured the maximum punishment, adding that the case outcome should deter such crimes in the future.
Stalin also alleged that a section was spreading false and defamatory claims against the DMK for “narrow political motives” and called it unacceptable. He reiterated that there was no need for the DMK government to protect anyone.
He further said that in cases involving crimes against women and minor girls, offenders were arrested without bias and charge sheets were filed, calling these “public, undeniable facts.” He urged the ruling party to stop using the suffering of the victims as an electoral tool and said the only goal should be to secure justice for the affected girls.
