Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay is set to campaign in Madurantakam on Friday, with organisers limiting attendance to 7,000 people.
The Madurantakam Assembly by-election is scheduled for next month on October 6. Maragatham Kumaravel, who resigned as an AIADMK MLA and later joined the TVK, is contesting on the party’s ticket.
To support Kumaravel, Vijay will address a campaign meeting in the constituency. A large pandal is being erected near the Athur toll plaza on the Chennai–Tiruchy National Highway, where he is expected to speak in the afternoon while standing on his campaign vehicle.
For the event, TVK and alliance party functionaries and cadres have been issued entry passes carrying QR codes, with participation restricted to 7,000.
Party functionaries have also alleged that some individuals have been creating trouble at places where Kumaravel campaigns, and say this could affect his prospects. They said Vijay has planned an intensive campaign to strengthen Kumaravel’s chances.
