Chief Minister Vijay on Friday alleged that the DMK is “dreaming” that a victory in the ongoing by-election would result in the TVK government collapsing by January. He made the remarks while addressing a campaign meeting in Madurantakam.
Vijay urged voters to treat every ballot as a strong message against those who, he said, speak about women in an insulting, vulgar and obscene manner. He warned that voting for such forces would amount to endorsing derogatory remarks against women.
Targeting the DMK and AIADMK, the Chief Minister claimed that a party should form the government only after winning 108 Assembly seats, but alleged that the AIADMK had “put up a show” in tandem with the DMK. He further said the AIADMK, which he described as once being a “branch” of the BJP, has now become a “branch organisation” of the DMK.
Vijay said his government would not touch public money and would not let those who do so go unpunished. Accusing the DMK of having a long history of corruption, he referred to allegations cited by the Sarkaria Commission and said young people should know about past corruption cases.
He also responded to criticism over his field inspections, saying he was being mocked for standing on bridges built by his government. Questioning opponents’ claims, he asked whether they had built such infrastructure with their own money and challenged their financial disclosures made during elections.
