India secured its fourth gold medal at the Asian Games after the men’s kabaddi team overcame Iran 40-34 in a high-voltage final at Aichi–Nagoya.
The title clash saw two evenly matched sides trade points throughout, with the contest locked at 20-20 at one stage, keeping fans on edge.
India eventually pulled ahead in the closing phase to seal the win and add another gold to the nation’s medal haul.
The victory also served as redemption against Iran, who had beaten India in the 2018 Asian Games final. Since kabaddi was introduced at the Asian Games in 1990, India has won gold in every edition except 2018.
With this result, India’s overall tally stands at 28 medals — 4 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze — moving the country to 10th place in the standings.
