Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said the country has no plan to develop nuclear weapons and is ready to allow international inspectors to visit and verify its nuclear facilities.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News while in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, Pezeshkian said Iran’s religious decree considers nuclear weapons illegal. He added that Tehran is prepared to reduce uranium enrichment as part of efforts to curb nuclear proliferation.
The remarks come after the United States and Israel launched military action against Iran in February, accusing it of secretly pursuing nuclear weapons.
Pezeshkian also blamed the United States for conflicts in West Asia and said former US President Donald Trump did not honor an agreement reached through talks. He maintained that Iran’s actions against US and Israeli attacks are limited to self-defence.
