Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the Centre’s “Make in India” initiative has delivered visible progress across sectors, as the programme completed 12 years since its launch.
In a social media post, Modi said the changes are evident in “more manufacturing in India, more investment in India and more exports from India.” He added that the mission is aimed at building the infrastructure, industry and innovation needed for India’s growth and prosperity.
The Prime Minister also shared a video highlighting advances in areas such as semiconductors, space and aviation, rail locomotives and coach manufacturing, shipbuilding, metro rail networks, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, solar power generation and mobile phone manufacturing.
Make in India was launched on September 25, 2014 with the goal of turning India into a global hub for manufacturing, design and innovation. The initiative focuses on easing investments, encouraging innovation and creating world-class infrastructure, alongside modernising procedures and policies under the “minimum government, maximum governance” approach.
As part of its next phase, “Make in India 2.0” has expanded the scope to 27 sectors—15 in manufacturing and 12 in services. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the programme has helped India move from producing mainly for domestic demand to manufacturing for global markets.
