The Central government has appointed senior IAS officer Mandeep K. Bhandari as the new chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), according to reports.
The appointment comes in the wake of a major controversy that erupted in June over CBSE’s “on-screen marking” system for evaluating answer sheets. Following complaints about re-evaluation and irregularities in exam results, then chairman Rahul Singh was replaced, and Lokande Prashant Sitaram was named interim chairman.
Bhandari is a 2001-batch IAS officer. He completed his medical studies in Ludhiana, Punjab, before clearing the Civil Services Examination and joining the IAS.
Prior to this role, he served as the Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
