At an event held at Lok Bhavan in Patna, Chief Justice of India Suryakant expressed concern over substance abuse among adolescents in India.
He said drug use among children should be viewed not merely as a public health challenge but also as a child protection issue, noting that one in five teenagers in the country uses narcotic substances.
The CJI called for stringent legal action against criminals who traffic drugs and exploit children by drawing them into addiction.
At the same time, he stressed the need to protect affected children and help them recover through proper treatment and counselling.
He added that society must create conditions in childhood that support education, sports and confidence in the future, so that children are less vulnerable to addiction.
