Salem vigilance officials arrested two people, including a dependent land surveyor, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 to facilitate a patta transfer.
The complainant, Kathiravan, a daily-wage worker from Ammapet in Salem, had applied at the Ammapet land survey office to transfer the patta of a house from his father’s name to his own.
According to the complaint, dependent land surveyor Murugesan (37) demanded Rs 5,000 to process the request. Kathiravan then approached the Salem anti-corruption police and lodged a complaint.
Acting on police instructions, Kathiravan handed over chemically treated currency during a trap operation. Officials said Murugesan and an alleged intermediary, Poovarasan (27), received the money and were arrested on the spot.
