Chennai: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has questioned Ranjan Kumar (49), the SC wing chief of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, in connection with the POCSO case involving businessman known as ‘Jem’ Veeramani.
Police sources said the SIT was formed to probe the allegations against Veeramani, and Ranjan Kumar was the first person to be examined by the team.
Ranjan Kumar has stated earlier that he had submitted a complaint with supporting evidence to the Chennai Police in November 2024 regarding the alleged sexual offence, but no action was taken at the time. He has also said he would fully cooperate with the investigation.
As part of the inquiry, the SIT questioned him over allegations that he visited the residence of Veeramani’s friend, Shanti, in Teynampet and recorded videos related to the minor victims on his mobile phone.
He was also questioned about reports that he met Tamil Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader John Pandian at a star hotel in Chennai along with Shanti, sources added.
