Chennai: DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has stepped up his attack on the Vijay-led government over recurring power cuts, pointing out that outages have begun disrupting even programmes attended by ministers.
According to the report, power interruptions have been frequent in several districts, including Chennai and Chengalpattu, triggering public protests in some places. Chief Minister Vijay had earlier directed officials to address the issue and recently visited the electricity board office for an inspection.
With opposition parties continuing to criticise the government over the outages, Electricity Minister Nirmal Kumar and other ministers have been offering explanations. However, the situation drew fresh attention after power cuts reportedly affected separate events attended by Minister Nirmal Kumar and ministers Arun Raj and Sengottaiyan.
Citing these incidents, Stalin said that if ministers themselves face such disruptions under the current administration, the plight of ordinary people needs no further explanation. He also alleged that the Chief Minister’s recent visit to the power board headquarters appeared to be about making “reels” rather than conducting a serious review.
