Kochi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has registered a major win in Kerala by securing all 12 posts in the students’ union election at the Government Sanskrit College in Tripunithura.
The college union had been under the control of the left-backed Students’ Federation of India (SFI) for around 45 years. In the latest election for 12 positions, ABVP candidates emerged victorious after being elected unopposed.
According to the report, September 17 was the last date for filing nominations, and only ABVP candidates submitted papers. As a result, all of them were declared elected without a contest. Snigdha M. Hari was chosen as president and Aditya T.A. as vice-president, with Vignesh Bhat as general secretary.
However, the official announcement of the results is expected on September 29, the date on which student union elections for colleges under Mahatma Gandhi University are scheduled.
The development comes amid recent political shifts in Tripunithura, where the BJP has reportedly taken over the municipality. ABVP said the change reflected student sentiment, citing SFI’s policies and its failure to promote Sanskrit as factors behind the outcome. The report also noted ABVP’s recent wins in student elections in universities in Punjab and Delhi.
