Chennai: In the first Tamil Nadu Assembly session under Chief Minister Vijay and the TVK-led alliance government, responses have been received for only a small share of questions raised by MLAs, according to information shared by Assembly officials.
Officials said MLAs submitted a total of 14,399 questions during the 28-day session. After scrutiny, 12,733 questions were admitted, while 1,666 were not permitted. Of the admitted set, 3,455 were treated as important questions and forwarded to the concerned departments.
However, departments have been engaged in preparing project reports for new announcements after the budget session, officials said. As a result, replies have been issued for only about 1,800 questions so far — roughly 15% of the admitted questions.
Many questions relate to constituency needs such as whether roads will be laid or hospitals will be established. Officials noted that such queries often require detailed study, which can lead to delays, but department officers have been instructed to speed up responses.
