New Delhi: The BJP in Tamil Nadu is said to be struggling, even as the party’s central leadership appears to be giving the state limited attention, according to reports.
Keshava Vinayagam, associated with the RSS, served as the BJP’s state organisation general secretary in Tamil Nadu for about a decade. He was sent back to the RSS in February, and the post has remained vacant since then.
Recently, RSS-linked leader Ram Madhav has been appointed as the BJP’s new in-charge for Tamil Nadu. However, no appointment has been made to fill the organisation general secretary role. The report claims BJP national president Nitin Nabin is not keen on naming anyone at present, with the party prioritising next year’s Uttar Pradesh election.
In contrast, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is said to want greater focus on Tamil Nadu. He reportedly met the Kanchi Shankaracharyas and discussed preventing religious conversions in the state, and is said to have written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue.
Within the party, there is talk that appointing a capable person to the vacant post is essential for the BJP to regain momentum in Tamil Nadu, the report added.
