A woman from Chennai has filed a complaint at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office alleging that her 16-year-old daughter died by suicide after being sexually abused by a man known as “Jem” Veeramani.
According to the complaint, Veeramani had offered to help the family by supporting the girl’s education, citing their poor financial situation. The mother alleged that he later used this access to befriend the teenager and sexually assault her in a brutal manner, leaving the girl distressed.
The mother said she had earlier approached the Ice House police station with a complaint soon after the incident. However, she alleged that no action was taken due to Veeramani’s money and influence.
She further claimed that when she later followed up, police told her the petition had gone missing during issues linked to the Jallikattu protest and that the matter was closed. With Veeramani now arrested in another case involving allegations of sexual assault of minors and a special investigation team formed, she has sought strict action and justice for her daughter’s death.
