A powerful avalanche has struck the base camp of Himlung Himal in Nepal, with at least 10 people reported missing, according to local updates. Search efforts are continuing at full scale.
Himlung Himal, rising to about 7,126 metres, is located in Manang district near Nepal’s border with Tibet. The avalanche occurred at the mountain’s base camp area.
Those missing include climbers as well as support staff such as camp kitchen workers and other helpers. Authorities said the exact status of the group is still being verified.
Nepal’s tourism authorities and mountaineering agencies are monitoring the situation and coordinating the search. However, poor weather conditions are hampering rescue and recovery operations.
