Mumbai: Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Munde has called on people to become “change-makers”, stressing that leadership should be judged by the change one creates rather than the power one holds.
Munde, who currently heads the state’s food safety department, is known for swift enforcement measures that have led to improvements in hygiene and food quality at restaurants in Mumbai. His actions have drawn public appreciation, with many linking the visible changes to his approach.
In a social media post titled “Be a change-maker”, Munde said policy and good governance alone cannot create lasting impact without public participation. He argued that governance must be built together with people, not delivered to them.
He added that public leadership involves earning people’s trust, fostering a sense of responsibility, and actively involving citizens in the process of change. According to him, the focus should be on meaningful action rather than the scale of change a single individual can bring.
