Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan attended the Vishwa Seva Divas celebrations at Mata Amritanandamayi Math in Amritapuri, Kollam district, Kerala, held to mark Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s 73rd birthday.
He arrived in Kerala on a one-day official visit and was received at the airport by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, state ministers and MP Shashi Tharoor.
At the event, the Vice President inaugurated a range of new humanitarian initiatives of the Math. As flood relief assistance, he handed over Rs 2 crore to Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Dr Surendra Thapa.
The programme also announced expanded free medical services for the underprivileged, including free organ transplant surgeries, and provided financial assistance to families of fishermen who died in boat accidents in the Neendakara and Muthalapozhi areas.
Continued support was announced for key initiatives such as the AmritaSREE self-help groups and the Amrita SeRVe self-reliant village programme. Overall, welfare and social service projects worth about Rs 50 crore were announced, and the Vice President released the 30th anniversary souvenir of the Amritakuteeram housing project—marking completion of 50,000 houses in India and Sri Lanka—along with three new ashram publications: The Hanuman Chalisa, The Ocean of Grace and Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
