Chennai: Annamalai, founder of the organisation We The Leaders, has said the Tamil Nadu government must thoroughly review the legal, administrative and public impact of any policy decision before announcing it.
In a statement, he pointed to what he described as a pattern over the past five months since the TVK government came to power—where several decisions are announced and later withdrawn after objections are raised.
He listed a range of instances, including the appointment of a special officer in the Chief Minister’s political division, a change in the Director of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing, a price hike for Aavin milk wholesale dealers, restrictions related to students participating in protests, and the latest move involving an RTI exemption linked to law and order.
Annamalai questioned whether such decisions were being taken with Chief Minister Vijay’s attention and approval, or whether major administrative calls were being made without his knowledge. He said hurried announcements followed by reversals create uncertainty in governance and raise doubts about who is making key decisions.
He urged the government to show greater care, transparency and accountability in decision-making, instead of taking steps in haste and withdrawing them after public opposition.
