Chennai Police have registered another case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against granite businessman ‘Jem’ Veeramani, following a complaint filed by a woman.
Veeramani, a prominent figure in the granite trade, is already in custody in connection with allegations of sexual abuse of minor girls and has been lodged in Puzhal prison.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that in 2004, when her daughter was 16, Veeramani called the girl to his house on the pretext of offering an education scholarship and sexually harassed her. She further claimed that her daughter later died by suicide.
Police said an FIR has been registered under the POCSO Act and an investigation is under way.
Authorities also appealed to the public to share any evidence or information related to the case with the Special Investigation Team at 9345319676, including via WhatsApp.
