The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed an election petition filed by former DMK minister Periyakaruppan, who had challenged the victory of TAVEK candidate Srinivasa Sethupathi in the Tiruppathur Assembly constituency.
In the Sivaganga district seat, Periyakaruppan, the DMK candidate, lost the election by a margin of just one vote to Srinivasa Sethupathi.
Following the result, Periyakaruppan moved the High Court questioning Sethupathi’s win. In response, Sethupathi filed a petition seeking rejection of the election case.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan allowed Sethupathi’s petition and ordered the dismissal of Periyakaruppan’s election petition.
