India returned from the 46th Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan with two medals, finishing on the podium in both the Open and Women’s sections.
In the Open event, India faced Hungary in the 11th round and ended the tournament in second place with 405.5 points, earning the silver medal. Uzbekistan won the title, while Germany took bronze with 386.5 points.
In the Women’s event, India drew 2.0–2.0 against Georgia in the 11th round. Humpy won her game, while Vantika Agarwal and Savitha Sri drew, and Divya lost.
After 11 rounds, the Indian women’s team finished with 17 points to claim the bronze medal. Overall, India’s campaign concluded with one silver and one bronze.
Reacting to the results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the chess players, calling their passion and determination an example, and said the achievements should inspire more young people to take up chess and excel in it.
