Chennai: A section of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionaries has expressed strong dissatisfaction over key posts and constituency responsibilities being assigned to leaders who recently joined from the AIADMK.
According to some TVK district secretaries, Tiruppur South district secretary Thirumal earlier oversaw two constituencies—Udumalpet and Madathukulam. They claim he has been left without real authority after Madathukulam was allotted to former AIADMK MLA Mahendran and Udumalpet to former minister Radhakrishnan.
They further alleged that Tiruppur North, represented by MLA Sathyabama, has moved under former minister Anandan’s control, while TVK minister Rajkumar’s Cuddalore constituency has been placed with former minister Sampath. They said the party leadership has issued instructions that the constituencies allotted to former AIADMK leaders should be handled by them going forward.
While they said they could accept giving a deputy general secretary post to those who joined from AIADMK, they objected to handing over constituencies as well. They also pointed out that earlier, constituencies were assigned to those who had resigned as MLAs before joining and to 27 MLAs who came from other parties and became TVK legislators, resulting in more than 10 district secretaries who came from fan clubs losing their positions.
The functionaries said that if posts continue to be distributed to new entrants, those who worked for the party would be left with no role. They added that when they raised the issue with general secretary Anand, he only asked them to “remain patient.”
