Chennai: Campaigning for DMK candidate Parandhaman in the Madurantakam constituency, opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a sharp attack on the Vijay-led government.
He claimed the ruling dispensation is functioning with the backing of parties that won as part of the DMK alliance, and alleged the government is “running on what DMK gave”. He also accused the ruling side of splitting the AIADMK and engineering defections by offering inducements, leading to the by-election.
Udhayanidhi said voters who supported “change” have been betrayed, and alleged that ruling party candidates who switched sides are being confronted by the public when they seek votes again. He also criticised Vijay’s speeches, alleging that at a Madurantakam event the Chief Minister repeatedly targeted the DMK.
He further alleged that Vijay’s late arrival to a Karur meeting contributed to a situation in which 41 people died. Udhayanidhi mocked the cabinet with a series of labels and accused the government of failing on law and order, citing claims of 500 murders in five months and an alleged sexual assault of a school student in Vandalur, Chennai.
