Chennai: India’s drug quality regulators have identified 220 medicines as substandard and one as counterfeit during nationwide testing carried out in August.
According to the Drugs Control Board, medicines sold across the country are routinely checked through central and state drug quality control systems. Samples are tested and action is initiated when fake products are detected.
In the latest round, more than 1,000 medicine samples were examined. The substandard list includes drugs commonly used for fever, pain relief, acidity, high blood pressure, respiratory infections, and indigestion-related complaints.
