New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said there should be no delay in taking action against terrorists, while unveiling a new online portal aimed at accelerating efforts to bring absconding and overseas fugitives back to India.
Launching the portal in Delhi, Shah said it would help coordinate the process of tracing fugitives abroad and fast-track legal procedures required for their return. He noted that the platform is expected to streamline work across agencies involved in extradition and deportation.
According to Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs, the CBI and state intelligence agencies will work in coordination. He said that when a fugitive is detained overseas, the process of obtaining court approvals and sending urgent surrender or extradition-related requests would become easier.
Shah also cited official figures, stating that between 2019 and 2026, a total of 288 fugitives were deported to India from 36 countries. He urged state police forces to form dedicated teams to work closely with central agencies to bring back offenders who have fled abroad.
Reiterating the government’s stance, he said there must be no delay in operations against terrorists.
