Minister Nirmal Kumar on Monday said a government function in Madurai was conducted without putting up posters or flex banners, as Chief Minister Vijay launched the “Thaymaman Thanga Modhiram” scheme at the Madurai Government Hospital.
Speaking at the venue, the minister said it was a matter of happiness that the Chief Minister began the scheme in Madurai. He added that there had been efforts to bring the Chief Minister to Madurai even during the election campaign, though a public meeting then was held on the city’s outskirts.
Nirmal Kumar highlighted that there were no banners at the government event, and none were seen along the 16-km stretch from Madurai airport to the government hospital, even though the district has eight TVK MLAs.
He said earlier such displays had often caused public discomfort, and added that barricades were arranged in a way that did not inconvenience people.
