Tamil Nadu currently has seven vacant Assembly constituencies, setting the stage for a fresh round of political and legal developments.
One of the vacancies is Trichy East, the constituency where Chief Minister Vijay had contested. The remaining six seats fell vacant after AIADMK MLAs reportedly switched over to TVK.
Amid this backdrop, the Election Commission has announced bye-elections only for two constituencies—Madurantakam and Dharapuram, both reserved seats.
The limited announcement is linked to election-related cases that are still pending. In one such case, arguments were presented on behalf of Chief Minister Vijay’s side, according to the report.
