Madurai: Chief Minister Vijay visited the Meenakshi Amman Temple on Monday and offered prayers at the shrine.
At the temple entrance, he was received by Rukmani, the chairperson of the temple’s trustee board. She is the wife of late former minister Palanivel Rajan and the mother of former minister Thiagarajan.
Vijay enquired about her well-being and sought her blessings by bowing at her feet. The gesture drew public attention as it came despite political differences.
Earlier, ahead of the temple’s kumbabishekam, Rukmani had criticised the ruling administration, alleging that trustee board members were not consulted and that political interference was influencing temple administration. Ministers had responded to her remarks at the time.
