A Bengaluru resident who suffered a serious injury after slipping on stairs has received financial assistance through the insurance cover linked to the Dinamalar annual subscription.
Sivalingam (63), a resident of Nanjareddy Colony in Murugeshpalya, runs a scrap iron shop in the area. On the morning of September 13, he reportedly lost his footing while coming down from the second floor of his house and fell, sustaining a painful injury.
He was taken to Hosmat, a private hospital, where doctors found a fracture below the knee. He underwent surgery the next day, during which a steel rod was fitted. The family said the treatment cost came to about ₹2.50 lakh, and he was discharged on September 17.
Remembering that he was a Dinamalar subscriber, Sivalingam contacted the newspaper’s office for details of the United Insurance cover provided through the subscription. With guidance from the staff, he submitted the required documents to the insurer’s Chennai head office.
After follow-up queries from the insurance office on September 24, ₹1 lakh was credited to his bank account. Sivalingam said he had borrowed money to pay the hospital bill, and the insurance payout helped him manage the financial pressure. He added that his relatives have now decided to opt for the annual subscription as well.
