Former AIADMK minister Semmalai has joined TVK, marking a fresh political move after his recent exit from the AIADMK.
On Wednesday (Sept 30), Vijay arrived in Dharapuram to take part in an election campaign meeting. Semmalai received him at the venue, and Vijay formally welcomed Semmalai into TVK by draping the party scarf.
Semmalai began his electoral career in 1980, winning as an independent from the Tharamangalam constituency. He later entered the Assembly as an AIADMK candidate in 1984, 2001 and 2016.
He also served as a Member of Parliament from Salem Lok Sabha constituency in 2009. In May this year, citing internal party issues, Semmalai announced his decision to quit the AIADMK and had since stayed away from active politics until this latest development.
