Granite businessman Veeramani, who is currently lodged in Chennai’s Puzhal prison in connection with a sexual assault case involving minors, has been booked under the Goondas Act along with two others.
Police said Veeramani of the ‘Gem Granites’ firm was arrested earlier over allegations of sexual violence against minor girls. Two people linked to him—his assistant Shanthi and her husband Mahendrasimhan—were also arrested.
To probe the allegations, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed. The SIT has also released a WhatsApp helpline number to enable victims and witnesses to come forward.
Officials said additional complaints are still being received against Veeramani. In this backdrop, Veeramani, Shanthi and Mahendrasimhan have now been detained under the Goondas Act.
