Indian authorities have seized narcotics worth about Rs 3,000 crore from an Iranian boat in the Arabian Sea, west of Lakshadweep. The operation was carried out by the Indian Coast Guard in coordination with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), based on intelligence inputs.
Officials said the search led to the recovery of 526 kg of high-grade heroin and methamphetamine. Five Pakistani nationals, who were part of the boat’s crew, were arrested in connection with the case.
The seized drugs, the Iranian vessel and the detained crew were brought to Mumbai under armed security, according to officials. The action is being described as a major blow to an international drug-smuggling attempt.
Authorities said the joint operation has strengthened efforts to prevent narcotics from entering Indian territory. Further investigation and questioning of the arrested men are under way.
