The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has removed the Paranur toll plaza on GST Road, marking a shift toward a “boothless toll” model.
According to the report, the new setup is designed to allow vehicles to keep moving without stopping at toll booths, with toll collection linked to FASTag-based automated systems.
The change is being highlighted as a technology-driven move to reduce waiting time and improve traffic flow on the busy Chennai–Trichy corridor.
The development has drawn attention to the broader question raised in the report—whether FASTag alone is sufficient as India moves toward more automated, barrier-free tolling methods.
